Billing errors can cause a client to be overcharged thousands of dollars each year for their utility services. Below are some examples of errors that were detected by utilityaccounts.com while analyzing client data. Since these clients had a contract with utilityaccounts.com to perform billing error investigation services, we corresponded with each vendor to resolve these issues on their behalf. These clients realized considerable savings as a result of this service.
Electricity – An electric invoice was received that was not representative of the load profile for this account. Documentation supporting the claim that a billing error must have occurred was included in our correspondence to the vendor where a review and adjustment to the account was requested on behalf of the client. The vendor confirmed that the multiplier used on the invoice in question was incorrect and issued a corrected bill which resulted in a savings to the client on their delivery service bill of over $35,000 and on the supply bill of over $50,000 for a total savings of over $85,000.
Natural Gas – An extremely high gas invoice was received that did not reflect the typical usage pattern for this particular account. Correspondence was directed to the vendor in which we requested that they obtain another meter reading. The vendor confirmed that the client had been overcharged, cancelled the bill in question and issued a corrected bill which saved the client over $40,000.
Water & Sewer – During our review of a water and sewer account we noticed an invoice where the client had been billed for abnormally high consumption. This prompted us to perform a detailed analysis of the invoices for this account which revealed that a mathematical error had been made when the consumption for the billing period in question was calculated. The vendor was informed and validated this information. The account was credited resulting in a savings to the client of more than $10,000.
